Day 338. It's a wonderful life.

Now the festive season can begin. Officially. Yes, I know you were all waiting for me to give you permission to embrace the Christmas spirit...

Tonight, for the first time, I saw It's a Wonderful Life on the big screen at this truly glorious cinema we have in King's Lynn. A black tie/period dress event, we were welcomed with sherry and mince pies and even the pre-show adverts were those people would have watched when the film was originally released.

It was a delight to watch in a theatre. And I cried. Again. I always do and it was a joyous moment when everyone applauded at the end.

I'm now on a mission to engage more with The Majestic Cinema - vintage evenings are definitely the way forward for diversification.

And cheesy as it may be, it really is a wonderful life.

Day 317. Deep blue something.

Sneaked out for a cheeky pizza with the little one. It's easy to convince myself this is a relatively cultured trip when we have to pass this beautiful church in Kings Lynn. That is until five minutes later when we're wearing stick on moustaches while we wait for our dough balls...

Day 295. Never run after a man or a bus; there's always another one coming.

Although in this village you could be left waiting for a bus at least. There are only two a week. You can travel to Kings Lynn on Tuesday or Swaffham on Saturday. Both buses stop outside our house so it shouldn't be too hard to catch one. But unlike men, you might want to run for it as the next one's a long time coming.*

* And no, I don't think you should run after men.

Day 207. Second day of the holidays.

Mummy rocks!

A visit to Kings Lynn library after numerous requests and we picked up Lemony Snicket book 9 just after she'd finished book 8.

Lunch on the quayside - a veritable feast of cooked meats, olives, bread and delicious chutneys.

Shopping for birthday gifts for the two parties Bea's attending over the next few days.

In your face day one.

Day 161. Sk8er Bois (and girls).

I doubt the kids in here are rocking' up MTV but The Shed in Kings Lynn is filled with Sk8er Bois and girls and a fair few BMXers too. Part of the Lynn Sport development, I had a chat with the guy manning the entrance and apparently it's a well used facility. Snack bar, loud music and under cover, this facility offers a place for teenagers to go all year round, unlike an outdoor skate park.

Day 146. Divorced, beheaded, died, ...

... divorced, beheaded, survived.

Today I learnt a new song to remember the fate of each of Henry VIII's six wives. Honestly? I already knew the order in which he married them and how the story ends for Catherine, Anne, Jane, Anne, Kathryn and Katherine. But for kids, it's a pretty cool recall method, if not a bit distracting in an exam situation.

We were at Horrible Histories in Kings Lynn, this time seeing Terrible Tudors; we saw Vile Victorians in February.

The show was funny, clever and with front row seats, no-one in front of us to block the view, although the flip side is that you have to keep an eye out for high velocity saliva during the dramatic speeches.

Loved it. Now how does that song go again?

Day 125. Getting into GEAR.

Happy to be a 'running Mum' as Bea's love of running continues. And let's face it, standing around in the sunshine in Kings Lynn is much more enjoyable than standing in the rain, wind and snow at Shouldham Warren during the Cross Country season. This was Bea's first mini GEAR and I was suitably proud as she headed towards the finish line in her white and green Ryston Runners' vest.

Day 119. Supermarket wars.

Opposite the biggest Sainsbury's I have ever shopped in, work is underway to build a Tesco which I'm led to believe may be bigger still.

Kings Lynn, the town where both of these monstermarkets reside, has a population of about 44,000 people. It would be impossible to contemplate  that neither retailer had looked into the market opportunity for siting its store here, with each store manager able to stare across the main road at its main competitor, but still. Two super-sized grocers on the same road. I wonder what in-store enticements Tesco will use to lure customers back once it opens later this year? Watch this space.

Day 110. Record Store Day.

It's Record Store Day. Launched originally in the US in 2007 and then the UK jumped on board shortly after. If this is a day that's passed you by previously here's a bit of history.

This is the vinyl seller in Kings Lynn; clearly adopting the Ronseal strap line as inspiration when it came to branding the shop. We don't have a working turntable in our house at the moment so The Record Shop is not somewhere I head to but I do have a certain fondness for the boxes of vinyl we own. Maybe it's time to resurrect them and blow Bea's mind at the same time: "Music? On large, black, plastic discs?" Yep, worth it just for that.

Day 69. Fine dining and comic timing.

A last minute decision to eat out on Mother's Day (apostrophe placement because this is all about me) was a risk but luckily Pizza Express was full so we managed to squeeze into The Bank House in Kings Lynn instead. Glass of fizz, amazing anti pasti plate and then confit of duck; after being spoilt by Bea with 'bed and breakfast', it was the perfect day. I did promise to include a red nose in each photo this week and much to the amusement of the diners around us we obliged with these.

Tomorrow I head to Slough. Ever see a blind man cross the road?
